Common Problems Garage Doors Face and Their Solutions

Most of the time, you can count on garage doors to operate correctly and quietly without giving them a second thought. However, it’s highly likely that your garage doors will malfunction or experience other problems during the course of their life. The good news is that many garage doors face the same problems, so it’s usually not difficult to find the solutions to them.

Today, we would like to go over just a handful of common garage door problems and their solutions:

  • Slow Opening – Garage doors that open slowly can be very frustrating, especially in the morning when you’re headed out to work or other obligations. If your garage door is slow to open, the tracks and rollers may be to blame. Examine them. If there’s lots of dirt in the tracks, clean them out, and make sure to lubricate the rollers too.
  • Strange Noises – Noisy garage door operation is a symptom of many issues. Slapping sounds indicate loose chains, grinding and squealing mean loose rollers, and vibrating or rattling usually means loose nuts and bolts. You can often tighten the hardware yourself, but if that doesn’t work and you don’t know for sure what is causing the noise, it may be best to seek a professional for repairs.
  • Sensor Problems – You may have sensor problems if your garage door won’t close all the way or closes and then opens immediately. Make sure there are no obstructions in the door’s path and that the sensors are aligned and clean. Sometimes direct sunlight affects the sensors’ ability to do their job, so make sure they have shade or screens.
